LLocated at the foot of the majestic Sentinel Peak in the Northern Drakensberg Mountains, Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge stands is a hallmark of sustainable tourism.
The lodge has significantly contributed to the local economy, leading to it being recognised globally as the best Responsible Tourism destination at the 2022 WTM Responsible Tourism Awards.

TThe picture was not always rosy. It was about to be closed by its community owners, the Sesotho Batlokoa, when TFPD was awarded the concession to manage and market the property in 2011
Since then, Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge has pumped R77.7 million into the regional economy, with nearly half of this coming from local procurement.
The lodge's refurbishment not only revitalised the property but also catalysed local businesses, creating lasting economic benefits and boosting local employment.
The lodge adopted a buy-local policy leading to the upskilling and empowerment of local businesses. As a result, local entrepreneurs thrived such as a team of local seamstresses who expanded their business beyond clothing, a potter who created unique ceramics, and local home carpet weavers who supplied handmade rugs to not only Witsieshoek but other lodges as well.
With 96% of the staff employed from the local area, the lodge's economic impact directly benefits the community, generating a cycle of economic activity.
The accommodation at Witsieshoek seamlessly blends with the natural splendour of the surroundings. The lodge offers a range of luxury rooms, charming bungalows, and backpacker cabins, ensuring comfort for those exploring the Northern Drakensberg.
As a gateway to some of South Africa's most renowned hiking trails, Witsieshoek promises unique adventures for visitors, whether conquering the challenging Sentinel Peak Chain Ladders or marveling at the captivating Tugela Falls.
