Sustainable Tourism Experience

SSituated in the serene Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the Kalahari in the Northern Cape, the !Xaus Lodge is a tranquil oasis in the midst of a vast wilderness. The establishment provides a breathtaking view of the untouched desert landscape.  During the day, guests can appreciate the magnificence of the desert in peaceful solitude, while at night, they can indulge in unparalleled stargazing.

BBeyond its captivating setting, !Xaus Lodge is a symbol of sustainable tourism and community inclusion. The lodge's commitment to community upliftment has garnered recognition, as it was honuored with the Silver Award for Poverty Reduction and Inclusion at the 2016 World Responsible Tourism Awards.

This accolade highlights the establishment's dedication to empowering local Khomani San and Mier communities who are the proud owners of the lodge. Managed sustainably by Transfrontier Parks Destinations (TFPD), the lodge benefits the local communities in various ways. This includes paying rental for land use, providing an equity share in the company, and offering employment opportunities to both local residents and craftsmen and women.

The TFPD Foundation also mobilises financial support and volunteers for specific projects aimed at making a positive impact on rural communities.

All desert expeditions offered by the lodge are led by members of the local communities who have undergone training in guiding techniques and naturalist skills.

Visitors to !Xaus Lodge can take a leisurely stroll to a recreated cultural village and observe the skilled Bushman crafters in action. Traditional crafts are available for purchase, and crafters often showcase their work at the lodge's curio shop. The main lodge building features a reception area adorned with unique wall hangings created by the women of Vezokhule, a sewing co-operative in Upington.

Additionally, the lodge offers environmentally conscious accommodation.
